I was first intrigued by Iceland in Mrs. Cioffari’s fifth grade Social Studies class where we learned that Greenland was named Greenland even though it was icy to encourage people to go there and Iceland was really green, but they wanted people to stay away. I wanted to know what secrets they were hiding there. When my mother sold a large piece of artwork, she asked me where I wanted to go, so I said I wanted to go to Iceland.
Back in 1986, IcelandAir was trying to increase tourism, so they were offering free stopovers that included free hotel stays. We booked a stopover on the way to Scotland. I was hooked from the moment we landed in the bright August sunlight.
Since then, I have been back countless times, and even managed to live there for eight months as part of a foreign exchange program. Any time anyone mentions Iceland, I immediately perk up and tell them how awesome the country is.
For years, people have been asking me for information and advice about when to travel, what to do, what to eat, etc. and I finally decided to create a website with that information for anyone who is interested.
Iceland is awesome and you should go there!
